đ Blue zones are regions in the world that are home to some of the oldest and healthiest people. Blue Zones regions include Okinawa Prefecture, Japan; Sardinia, Italy; Ikaria, Greece; Nicoya, Costa Rica; and Loma Linda, California, USA (Image 1).

Blue Zones regions were discovered by author and National Geographic Explorer Dan Buettner, who has worked for more than a decade researching about longevity.

Although lifestyles differ slightly, there were common factors that united the regions. For example, people living in Blue Zones mostly follow a plant-based healthy diet đ„, exercise regularlyđđ»ââïž, get enough sleep đŽand have good spiritual, family and social networks đ€đŒ (Image 2).
