Costa Rica is a country located in Central America. Since 1949, Costa Rica became the first country in the world to abolish its military.
šļø The national budget previously used for the military has instead been invested to social welfare, healthcare, education, and environmental conservation!
In terms of education, compulsory education is free of for all children, which has significantly improved the literacy rates and education enrollment rates of children.
As a result, Costa Rica has ranked #1 in the the Happy Planet Index (HPI), a ranking of countries based on their environmental impact and the health and happiness of their citizens. Costa Rica is also considered one of the safest countries in Latin America.
